Top 10 Black History Books

Booklist, published by the American Library Association, publishes book critiques. Every year it comes up with lists of the best, the best young adult fiction, the best science nonfiction, the best graphic novels for teens, etc. This year they have once again published some lists for Black History Month.

Reviewers have pulled out some of the more interesting books to highlight this year. From the Story behind the Story on a poetic exploration of a more famous slave revolt, the Amistad mutiny (Ardency: A Chronicle of the Amistad Rebels, by Kevin Young) to the 400-year history of Harlem, biographies of Ethel Waters and Ice-T, and much more.

If you are looking for something new to read this month, we encourage you to check the booklists. Since Booklist is a subscription online journal, many of the reviews will not be available for free but the booklists are available.
